Top 7 Famous Pilgrim Centers of Kerala



Kerala is known to be a unique place where all major religions have coexisted peacefully for centuries. That is purely a part of Kerala's culture and tradition. You can experience it by visiting the various religious institutions spread across Kerala. Hindu temples, churches, mosques Jain temples and Buddhist monasteries are there. These centers are amongst the most spiritually calming places in the world.
The most famous pilgrim centers are:
  • Arthunkal Church


The Saint of Arthunkal (Arthunkal Punyavaalan) is a giving an aura to thousands of devotees from various religions. The church and the festivals conducted in the church is famous all over the world. Arthungal Perunnal is a feast of the patron saint St Sebastian conducted on every January. It is also famous as a family picnic center. Kazhunnu nercha is famous here.
  • Bathery Jain Temple


It is one of  the most famous Jain temples in Kerala which is located in Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad. It is fully built with big stones in the 13th century. It’’s design is the traditional architectural style of Vijayanagar Dynasty. It is a famous ammunition store or battery of Tipu Sultan's army.

  • Beemapally Mosque Thiruvananthapuram


Beemapally Mosque is built to show honor of Beema Beevi. It is situated in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. The mosque is widely visited by people of all religions and castes every year. The main festival of the mosque is fully dedicated to respecting the Beema Beevi. Beginning on the first of Jama dul Akbar, the festival lasts for the next 10 days.
  • Cheraman Juma Masjid Kodungallur

Cheraman Juma Masjid is the first Masjid in India located at Kodungallur, Thrissur. That is constructed in 628 and has undergone so many renovations. Last renovation was done in the year 1974. The Juma prayer is  conducted for the past 1375 years here. The 24x7 burning lamp is another specialty of this masjid.
  • Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple

Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple is located inside of East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram. It is purely dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is created using the Kerala and Dravidian styles of architecture in the 8th century. It is in the list of 108 sacred Vishnu temples or Divya Desams in India.
  • Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple


Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple, the largest temple dedicated to gods of serpents located at Haripad in Alappuzha. It is one of the most prominent temples in the world where serpents are worshipped. The serpents are the main icons in the temple. It is built before many centuries with the 30,000 images of snake-gods. Most of the Hindu barren women are believed to be blessed with children, and a special turmeric paste available at the shrine is credited with having powers to cure any disease.
  • Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple


This is a famous Sree Krishna temple situated in Ambalappuzha. Typical Kerala style architectural features are enclosed in temple's construction. Ambalappuzha palpayasam (milk porridge of exceptional sweetness) is famous here. Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple's main festival is held during March-April, which attracts thousands of devotees.
