Effective Tips To Make Your Child Overcome Her Fears And Phobias

If a child is suffering from fear and phobia, it have to be dealt with at the the earliest, as they might lead to more severe problems in life when your child grows into an adult. The main symptoms are that your child may lack confidence and may appear timid, awkward and gauche.

Types of Phobia:

Animal Phobias

This includes fear of spider, dogs and snakes. Often, kids are very scared of animals likes dogs and reptiles. To overcome this fear you may take them to a zoo and educate them about animals. You can make your child understand that these animals too are God’s creation and have the same features as humans.To ease your childs fear getting yourself a pet will be a good idea  so that at a later stage they will get rid of this fear completely.

Social Phobias

This social phobia mainly includes social interaction. Ever wondered why your child fear to speak to her friends or he avoids a social situation or performing tasks in front of an audience? This is because your child is suffering from social phobia. You can handle this to certain aspects by first observing your child by how she is behaving socially.You need to encourage your child to engage in school activities to gain confidence. Try to give positive remarks about his/her social conducts, by this way your child will improve confidence.

Injury Phobias

This mainly includes fear of illness, fear of needles, blood and many types of similar medical treatments. If you feel that you child is suffering from injury phobia, you need to patiently explain that you don't have to worry about these things and there is nothing to feel fear about these. A visit to a nearby hospital with your child and explaining to her about why lying in the hospital bed or taking an injection for treatment is necessary can stop such fears. After she takes an injection from the hospital without having fear you can motivate your child by rewarding her. All these may benefit your child to ease the phobia in a long run.

Environmental Phobias

This includes fear of water, storm and dark. You can help your child to conquer her fear by simply staying calm and listening to her.  You can help your child to conqure her fear simply by listening to her and staying calm.  Give an assurance to your child that these are very normal kind of fears and that your child can handle these kind of fears and that she is safe. During thunderstorms be with them, respect their fears instead of teasing them and be with them.It is obvious that in the dark your child’s mind can create many scary thoughts so hug your child before bed and stay nearby till your child falls asleep.


Tips to Overcome Child Fears and Phobias:

Apart from this if your child is facing any other kind of phobias. You can follow the below tips to help your child to overcome his/her fear.

Understand the Problem:

Fears in life are very natural since kids are just discovering the world they are living in. Other than you no one else can be your child’s best friend at this stage. So instead of making fun of them try to understand them and stay calm.

Listen to your child and talk to him:

Always listen to your child and ask why he feels so. Making them understand that you were also the same when you were at his age will definitely strengthen your bond with your child.
Give them your time and understand them. These are the best healers for them to handle the stress.

Do Not Make Fun of Your Child’s Fear:

Make sure that you are not making fun of your child’s fear.This is only going to lower her self-esteem and will not make her less fearful. You are only going to develop her negative feelings if you are trying to neglect and make fun of her fears.

Do Not Ignore Your Child’s Fear:

If your child is saying for instance that he/she is scared of her friend, instead of ignoring ask her why and make her understand that her friend is also a normal human being just like her. Ask your child to greet her friend in your presence. However, make sure that you are not pushing her.


Do Not Force Your Child To Overcome Their Fear:

Make sure that you are not forcing your child to overcome any fear. if you are doing so, your child might stop discussing her phobia with you. Love and support are the two powerful tools that you can use to make your child forget about phobias. Help your child to adjust with her fear.

Be a Model Parent:

Try to make effective conversation with your child. This will ease phobias in your kid more quickly than normal ways. It is okay to be afraid of certain things at young age. Your child will outgrow it all very soon. Make your child understand that these fears and phobias are normal. Always keep in mind that your child will always follow your actions.


Reward Your Child’s Effort:

When you child makes an effort to improve strengthen and support her. Treat her with an ice-cream or gift her with her favorite game. You are letting your child know what she is going through by gratifying her and this will built her confidence.
